Reflections from the National Day of Prayer Committee Convening
January 20–21, 2026
The International Christian Host Coalition (ICHC was honored to spend meaningful time with the National Day of Prayer Committee during the National Prayer Committee’s convening on January 20–21, 2026. The gathering was both grounding and energizing—marked by a spirit that felt safe, reverent, and unmistakably alive.
From the beginning, one central charge shaped everything that followed:
“The fire shall ever be burning upon the altar; it shall never go out.”
Leviticus 6:13
This scripture became our interpretive lens—a call not merely to ignite the flame, but to tend it faithfully.
Scripture, Formation, and the Inner Life
Together, we reflected deeply on several passages that spoke to perseverance, humility, and hope:
Psalm 16 — God as our portion and inheritance
2 Corinthians 4 — Becoming, endurance, and eternal glory
Psalm 84:6 — Turning the Valley of Baca into springs
Micah 6:8 — Doing justice, loving mercy, walking humbly
Psalm 30 — Weeping that gives way to joy
A recurring refrain emerged and stayed with us:
Stay low. Stay hidden. Stay close to the ground—because closeness to the ground keeps us safe and near God.
We were reminded that God does not quench a smoldering wick or break a bruised reed. Moments of weakness and clarity are not failures; they are re-centering graces—invitations back to the heart of God.
Desperation, Proximity, and Power
We spoke candidly about desperation for God—not panic, but holy hunger. The story of Jairus and the woman with the issue of blood illustrated a powerful truth: proximity matters.
She had spent all she had and only grew worse—yet one reach, one touch, one act of faith brought immediate wholeness.
When Jesus asked, “Who touched Me?” it was not for information. It was because power had gone out of Him—and He noticed.
The charge to us was unmistakable:
We must be so full of the Holy Spirit that when people touch our lives—intentionally or unintentionally—virtue flows, and God is glorified.
Revival Without Walls
We reflected on the revival stirring among young people, particularly on college campuses. Baptisms happening wherever water could be found. A pickup truck transformed into a mobile baptismal pool.
This is ministry without walls—unconventional, ingenious, and responsive.
Rather than waiting for people to come to the building, the Church is rediscovering how to go to the people.
Fire plus wind equals spread.
Do Not Miss Your Day of Visitation
A sobering warning echoed throughout our time together. Drawing from the wisdom of Marcus Aurelius, we named comfort as one of the most dangerous addictions.
Comfort dulls urgency.
Comfort numbs vision.
Comfort stalls calling.
We were reminded to:
Keep our lamps trimmed
Keep oil in our vessels
Stay ready at all times
Be prepared to give an answer for our faith
Do not miss your day of visitation.
Closing Charge
Let the fire never go out.
Let desperation drive obedience.
Let proximity produce power.
Let revival spill beyond walls.
Let the next generation rise—trained, discipled, covered, and released.
And may we remain ready: watchful, faithful, and aflame.
