A New Season of Prayer in Washington, D.C. - September 5, 2026
ICHC Steering Team for DC National Day of Prayer
The September 5 celebration of the Jericho Prayer Movement (JPM) offered a moment to honor its history and look toward what comes next. Pastor Sharon Lee, who has directed JPM for the past 10 years, announced the conclusion of the movement’s prayer mission in the area and beyond. The gathering recognized 25 years of JPM and a decade of Pastor Lee’s leadership.
The occasion also brought attention to a new vision for prayer across Washington, D.C. Chaplain Sheila Griffin, Chairperson of DC National Day of Prayer, shared her goal of establishing prayer altars in each of the city’s eight wards. The vision calls for trained leaders to serve their neighborhoods through prayer and spiritual care.
At Chaplain Griffin’s request, Pastor Dervin Brown has agreed to continue coordinating the ward leaders already identified for this work. Leaders who are currently serving at prayer altars are welcome to continue, while additional coordinators may join as the effort grows. Pastor Brown will share further guidance and updates on the existing format.
The International Christian Host Coalition (ICHC) will continue supporting Chaplain Griffin’s vision and Pastor Brown’s coordination of neighborhood prayer altars in the eight wards and beyond.
We give thanks for JPM’s years of service and for the people stepping forward in this new season. Those interested in the effort are encouraged to watch for email updates and consider how they can take part.
